created by barbara custom motorcycles, this series of bike concepts depicts the future for bike-brands yamaha, BMW, and kawasaki. the france-based design preparation shop is directed by the enigmatic ‘barbara’, and has created no less than one thirty-five captivating renderings in the past, all of which exhibit a unique and authentic interpretation of each brand.

barbara custom motorcycle’s otherworldly renderings blur the boundaries between fantasy and reality: while each of these bikes lend themselves to different landscapes, all of their individual styles certainly carry a sci-fi influence. the BMW ‘elvis has left the building’ is a bruised salt racer-style-bike with a retro-futuristic full-body-fairing that appears to hark back to the early days of bonneville speedway racing, with 1930’s streamline influences. in contrast ‘barbara’ takes a totally new approach with the ‘E type stealth’ motorcycle, with the headlight, fuel tank, and seat all integrated seamlessly, creating a clean, minimalist form that fits ridley scott’s ‘blade runner‘.

Yamaha XT1100

To say the Yamaha XT500 is a legendary bike would be an understatement. More than 40 years later, it is still one of the best thumpers in motorcycle history. After winning the Paris to Dakar rally shortly after its release in 1976, it paved the way for future enduro and off-road bikes. But what if it was released today as a larger capacity scrambler? Jesper Johansen from Slowbuilt in Copenhagen, Denmark, wanted to build a larger capacity XT with all the retro cues of the original classic – only bigger. “I always loved twin shocks dirt bikes,” he explains. “Especially the Yamaha XT500 and HL500 – had a few over the years, especially the white 1976 model XT with the iconic tank decals. After Jesper was finished removing everything that wasn’t a necessity, the bike had lost an incredible 60kg (130 pounds). “With a curb weight of only 160kg it handles like a dream. Un prototype de moto électrique

Piotr Krzyczkowski est un jeune designer polonais qui a voulu créer sa propre marque de motos électriques, Falectra. Il souhaitait proposer aux citadins une solution de transport confortable, économique et plus respectueuse de l’environnement. Afin de convaincre différents investisseurs, il a conçu un premier prototype grâce l’impression 3D, notamment avec les machines à dépôt de matière fondue de Zortrax . Un projet qui en aurait apparemment séduit plus d’un puisque Piotr a obtenu tous les fonds nécessaires pour se lancer dans l’aventure : on devrait voir les premières motos sur les routes l’année prochaine.

La superbe LiveWire

Quelques journalistes chanceux ont pu chevaucher la LiveWire, première moto électrique du légendaire constructeur américain Harley-Davidson. L’occasion de jeter un œil aux caractéristiques de l’engin. C’est désormais fait puisque certains journalistes du site spécialisé Electrek ont pu l’utiliser. Ils rapportent ainsi que l’engin est équipé d’une batterie de 15,5 kWh refroidie à air, couplée à un moteur électrique de 78 kW (équivalent à 105 ch) à refroidissement liquide. Le conducteur aura cependant le choix entre quatre modes de conduite baptisés Route, Pluie, Autonomie et Sport. Idéal pour paramétrer votre voyage et tirer au mieux parti du moteur. Harley-Davidson annonce d’ailleurs une autonomie de 235 km en ville.
